What are the statutory drill requirements?
- Abandon ship - 1 x per month or when more 25% crew change not more than 24 hours after departure
- Fire - 1 x per month or when more 25% crew change not more than 24 hours after departure
- ISPS - every 3 months or when more 25% crew change
- Lifeboat launch and recovery - every 3 month
- Rescue Boat - every month
- Davit launched life raft - every 4 months
- Emergency steering - every 3 months
- Enclosed space drill – every 2 months

What are the requirements for an abandon ship drill?
- Vessel must hold up to date muster lists
- Station bill verified for correct alarm signals, communications channel, duties of crew
- One duty per person
- Crew aware of devolved command in station bill
- OOW in charge of survival craft SART and EPIRB.
- Operator for engine
- Station bill states who is responsible for maintenance of life saving appliances
- Lifeboat periodically board when stowed -> not with full complement
- General alarm tested
What are the requirements for a Fire Drill?
- As per MGN 71
- Conduct if real outbreak
- Use realistic control measures
- Vary position of fire and nature -> accommodation, oil / chemical, machinery, cargo and galley
- Test run main fire pump and emergency pump
- Closing of fire flaps, doors, hatches, ventilation and power
- Test fixed system with as much realism as possible
- One fire extinguisher to be discharged
- Ensure all equipment is returned back to service
- Instructions in fire prevention
- Operate watertight doors in fire drill
- Make drill report, enter in official log book
